Artist's Statement

Environmental representations are rarely facsimiles of the external world. In my work, landscape acts as a catalyst a source of inspiration, a material resource, the terrain charged with memories and histories. I explore societal view of nature by object placement in vitrines and museumification. Discarded and found raised to the level of artefact. Layered silkscreen printed self-portraits question impermanence and work through historical trauma, whilst multiples (first made by Marcel Duchamp then employed by Robert Rauschenberg and American Pop Art) query consumerism and the artist as manufacturer. Abstracted landscapes shift from painted topography to highly contrasted silkscreen printed photographs. My practice, like the land I am inspired by, is constantly changing.
